The Story Behind the Shelf

Jillian Stephenson
Founder, Pages & Kin

With 11 years in healthcare administration, I've built a career around serving people — and Pages & Kin is an extension of that same calling.

My love of reading was planted early. My parents prioritized books in our home, and my grandmothers — both child educators — made literacy feel like love. Library trips every school break, spelling quizzes, questions about what I was reading. That was community. That was kinship.

When my daughter was born, my husband's encouragement gave me the courage to finally chase this dream. Pages & Kin is my promise to her — that chasing your dreams matters, that reading builds community, and that our stories belong at the center.

Tailored for the Black community. Open to everyone.

Why It Matters

Built on Kinship

Pages & Kin is more than a bookstore. It's a cultural hub — rooted in community, built on love of story, and committed to making Black literature accessible to everyone who needs it.

01

Access for All

Online shopping means families in book deserts, rural areas, and underserved communities can access culturally affirming books — no matter where they are.

02

Identity in Every Page

Children who see themselves in stories grow up with stronger identities, deeper empathy, and greater confidence in who they are and where they come from.

03

Generations of Readers

From board books for babies to novels for elders, Pages & Kin serves every generation — because literacy is a family legacy worth building together.
